United Investors Life Insurance Co. is a subsidiary of Torchmark Corp. United Investors seeks to provide life insurance to middle-class American households. It holds over 320,000 contracts, and has more than $24.5 billion in insurance policies, an increase of 57 percent since 1990.

United Investors Life Insurance provides three types of life insurance and two types of annuity products to its customers.

  • Variable Universal Life allows the insured to invest the cash value of the policy into stock portfolios.
  • The Term Life insurance is for a short-term period and is best geared toward those wanting to hold a policy for under 30 years.
  • The Interest Sensitive Whole Life is a permanent life insurance policy. This policy is for those seeking a guaranteed death benefit and a minimum cash value.

The two annuity products are variable and fixed.

  • Variable annuity is for those who prefer their policies' value and annuity payments to vary based on the status of their subaccounts.
  • The fixed annuity is for those who like to pay a set interest for a certain amount of time.

UI's History

United Investors Life Insurance was created in 1961. Eighty percent of it is owned by Liberty National Life, and the remaining 19 percent is owned by parent company Torchmark Corp. As of 2007, United Investors earned $339.6 million in sales. It employs 108 people, and has 4,000 representatives.

Company Ratings

In 2008, A.M. Best gave United Investors a rating of "A" (Excellent), with a stable outlook.
