Security Life of Denver Insurance Co.

Security Life of Denver is an affiliate and wholly owned subsidiary of ING. As a part of its merger with ING, Security Life of Denver also became responsible for Southland Life insurance policies and annuities. As of the end of 2007, Security Life of Denver held more than $24 billion in total assets. ING also owns two other life insurance affiliates, ReliaStar Life Insurance Co. and ReliaStar Life Insurance Co. of New York.

Products

Security Life of Denver offers insurance products for individuals, including term life, universal life, and variable universal life insurance. Some examples of investment products used by Security Life of Denver for variable life insurance include Alger American portfolios, INVESCO VIF portfolios, Neuberger and Berman Government Income, Van Eck Gold and Natural Resources Portfolio, and Fidelity Investments portfolios.

History

Security Life of Denver was created as a corporation when two companies, Security Life and Accident Co. and Centennial Casualty Co., consolidated in December 1959. This was due to Security Life and Accident Co. acquiring all shares of Centennial Casualty in 1958. Security Life and Accident Co. was created in 1929, originally under the name Gibraltar Life and Accident Co. and later under the name Colorado Life Co. The acquired company, Centennial Casualty Co., was incorporated in 1949 as a capital stock casualty company. Centennial Casualty was restructured into a life insurance company in 1959. The present name of this corporation, Security Life of Denver Insurance, began use on May 13, 1981. In 1985, Security Life of Denver became a wholly owned subsidiary of ING America Insurance Holdings Inc., until becoming a part of ING Financial Services in 2004.

As of January, Security of Denver had an A+ rating (second highest) with A.M. Best, an AA- rating (fourth highest) from Fitch, an A1 (sixth highest) rating from Moody's, and a Standard & Poor's rating of AA (third highest).
