History

American Founders Life was founded in 1954 in Dallas and was acquired by Sagicor in 2005, and renamed in 2006. Now based in Arizona, Sagicor Life Insurance Co. is a part of the Sagicor Financial Corp. family, which has been operating in 22 countries for more than 160 years. Sagicor Financial Corp. started as Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society in 1840 and steadily expanded throughout the Caribbean. The acquisition of American Founders was Sagicor's break into the U.S. insurance industry.

Ratings

In 2008, A.M. Best upgraded Sagicor Life Insurance Company from a "B++" to and "A-," citing good growth but noting the challenges the company may have in attaining its long-term growth strategy and improving name recognition in the United States.
