History

Oxford Life was founded in Arizona in 1965. Now a member of the publicly traded financial holding network, AMERCO, Oxford Life works closely with its subsidiaries to provide services for seniors. In 1997, the company acquired Encore Financial Inc. of Wisconsin, a stockholder in North American Insurance Co. In 2000, the acquisition of Christian Fidelity Insurance Co. led to the 2006 acquisition of Dallas General Insurance Co. Those two acquisitions helped bolster Oxford Life's Medicare supplement insurance offerings. Oxford Life became a member of the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA) to demonstrate their commitment "to maintain high ethical standards and to be fair, honest, and open in the way advertise, sell and service our products." IMSA is a nonprofit organization that promotes high ethical standards in the insurance and annuity industry.

Oxford Life is rated by A.M. Best Company as a "bbb+," which in 2008 was an upgrade from a "bbb." Its subsidiaries, Christian Fidelity, Dallas General and North American Insurance also maintained "B++" ratings.
