New Hampshire Life Insurance

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners estimates that residents of New Hampshire held nearly $65 billion in individual life insurance policies in 2005, and held another $33 billion in group and credit life insurance policies. If you're one of New Hampshire's 1.3 million people (2005 Census estimate) who do not yet have life insurance, you may be considering this important addition to your personal finances.

There are a number of major life insurance and financial companies based in New Hampshire, or nearby Boston, such as Libery Mutual, John Hancock and Fidelity Investments.

New Hampshire Offices Responsible for Life Insurance

New Hampshire's Insurance Department was established in 1851. In fact, it was the first insurance regulatory agency in the United States. Should an insurer licensed to sell life insurance in New Hampshire be found to be insolvent the New Hampshire Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association is responsible to protect the interests of the life insurance policy holders.

The legal statutes that regulate life insurance are defined in New Hampshire's Chapter 408. These regulations cover issues such as requirements, penalties and limitations on policies, the charitable gift of a life insurance policy, and an agent's responsibility in renewing a policy.
