Michigan Offices Responsible for Life Insurance

The Office of Financial and Insurance Services serves Michigan consumers by providing information and assistance to help them understand life insurance and other policies. Michigan was the first state, under the Financial Services Modernization Act in 1999, to coordinate insurance, securities, and financial institution regulations. Chapter 40 of the Michigan Insurance Code regulates many aspects of individual life insurance policies, including payments, interest charges, and the cancellation of policies. The state also has a consumer protection act to safeguard consumers from insurance fraud or violations of the Michigan Insurance Code.
