Life Insurance in Georgia
Georgia has a population of 9 million, 5.4 million of which reside in the Atlanta-metro area. Life insurance
is issued to Georgia residents by 15 different insurance companies. These companies combined have issued policies
worth more than $126 billion, with almost equal amounts in individual and group policies.
American Family Life Assurance Company, also known as AFLAC, is
headquartered in Georgia, selling life insurance as well as several supplemental health policies.
The Georgia Office Responsible for Life Insurance
The Georgia Department of Insurance Life and Health Division assists
consumers by analyzing insurance policies and ensuring their compliance with the state's insurance regulations. The
aim of the department is to protect consumers from fraudulent and deceptive policies.
Georgia also runs the Insure U University that educates consumers about all aspects of insurance. The program provides
study materials that can help consumers to understand the types of policies available and to keep them from falling
for life insurance scams. New life insurance legislation enacted in 2005 grants more protection to consumers from
fraudulent or unfair practices.
